Tax Reform

High and unstable tax rates are holding us back. It is time for common sense tax reform.

There is no such thing as a good tax, but there are better ways of efficiently raising revenue to fund the necessary expenses of government. Unfortunately, Louisiana has every bad tax you can name and a few that you can’t. Our top income tax rate is 6% for individuals and 8% for corporations; Texas has neither. Louisiana also has one of the highest sales tax rates in the country. These are hardly selling points for attracting people and companies to our state. It is time for the citizens of Louisiana to demand that the legislature undertake fundamental tax reform.

I will promote fundamental tax reform by:

  1. Reducing or eliminating inefficient and uncompetitive taxes
  2. Lowering tax rates by broadening the tax base across different tax categories
  3. Making necessary spending cuts to maintain a balanced budget
  4. Transferring taxing and spending responsibilities out of Baton Rouge and back to the hands of local governments
