Time is running out to save Louisiana’s coast. We need to act now.
Coastal Louisiana is disappearing into the Gulf of Mexico. We lose on average a football field of land every hour into the Gulf. Fish and wildlife are disappearing as well as their habitat is overcome by open salt water. Homes, businesses, and infrastructure all become more vulnerable to flooding as more and more of the coast is eroded away. Even inland cities are affected since hurricanes are no longer weakened by coastal wetlands and barrier islands. Doing nothing is not an option, but every action requires money and sacrifice.
I will work to protect Louisiana’s coast by:
- Securing funding for the Coastal Master Plan
- Focusing efforts on river sediment diversions to rebuild land in the same way it was originally built
- Finding cost-effective ways to protect vulnerable communities
